What is mufflers?
Pneumatically operated double diaphragm pumps can produce high noise when discharging air at full speed. The best way to reduce these sounds is to install a muffler/silencer. There are many types of mufflers used on diaphragm pumps, depending on the exhaust flow, you can choose from different sizes, designs, materials and prices. All have their own specific specifications depending on connection specifications, working temperature range or working pressure range (silencer strength).
As the compressed air flows through the internal air dividers of the diaphragm pump, it eventually reaches the air discharge where the muffler will be installed. The exhaust of this compressed air creates temperatures that rapidly drop below freezing, which due to moisture in the air and humid environments can cause freezing-related problems in your muffler.
Compressed air supply with high humidity or frost visible on the outside of the muffler is a sign of a freezing-related problem that is reducing pump performance.
Some proposed solutions to eliminate these problems:
- Reduce the compressed air pressure of your diaphragm pump.
- Increase diaphragm pump size for more comfortable lower speed operation.
- Discharge gas to a far place.
- Add an air filter to your air line along with a water collector to collect condensation then drain it.
- Install a heater in your air ducts to increase air temperature.
- Adjust the pressure dew point temperature using a dryer installed in the air compressor.
